The problem
School compliance is its own stack
Most schools do not have a dedicated compliance department. BizNerva gives the responsible school staff a shared system to know applicable compliance obligations, assign the work, collect evidence, and stay ready for board, parent, regulator, or accreditor questions.
- Federal obligations (FERPA, IDEA, Title IX) gate on federal funding. Private schools without DOE funding face a different stack, and a generic policy template misses that.
- COPPA, SOPIPA, and state student-privacy laws apply to vendor ed-tech. Tracking which DPAs are signed and current is its own job.
- Schools are also employers. Labor classification, OSHA workplace safety, and (in California) workplace violence prevention and pay-transparency rules apply just like at any business.
- Field trips combine vendor screening, insurance verification, chaperone ratios, bus-driver licensing, attestation logs, and parental approvals, with zero room to lose a permission slip.
Why this matters now
The operational load on schools is going up every term
Schools are adopting more EdTech, AI tools, vendors, field-trip services, and digital workflows every term. Every new vendor, tool, trip, staff process, and safety requirement creates another record to track. BizNerva keeps those obligations organized before they become board, parent, audit, or legal problems.
Modules
What is included
Modules activate based on your education type, operating states, and nonprofit status. You only configure what applies to your school.
K-8 / K-12 Focus
COPPA, SOPIPA, FERPA (federal-funding gated), IDEA, Title IX, mandated reporter training, anti-bullying, and education-type-aware AI assistant retrieval.
Privacy + Vendor DPAs
Per-state privacy law applicability, vendor data-processing agreement tracking, consent management, and breach response workflows.
Labor Compliance
Worker classification (FLSA exempt vs non-exempt, employee vs IC including the 29 CFR 541.303 teacher exemption), wage and hour, benefits eligibility, leave laws, retirement mandates, and required postings. Active for every school regardless of state.
OSHA
Workplace safety for every US school: IIPP / safety plans, hazard assessments, training records, incident logging, and citation tracking under 29 CFR 1904 / 1910.
WVPP / SB 553 (California)
Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, risk assessments, employee training records, and incident logging under Labor Code 6401.7. Activates when California is in your operating states.
Pay Transparency + Job Post Checker (California)
Pay scales, employee pay-scale requests, and CRD pay-data filings under Labor Code 432.3 and Gov. Code 12999. Plus a built-in Job Post Checker that flags missing pay scales and other gaps before you publish. Activates when California is in your operating states.
Nonprofit Governance
Board governance, conflict-of-interest, IRS Form 990 / state charity registration tracking, and donor-restricted-funds oversight. Activates when your school is structured as a nonprofit.
School Trips Orchestrator
Per-trip workflow for day, overnight, and international trips. Vendor screening, COI tracking with AI expiry extraction, chaperone ratios, ADA attestations, post-trip debriefs, and bus-driver licensing (SPAB, CVC §545) for charter and school-bus transport. Student data stays in your SIS.
Trust
Built for student-data protection
BizNerva helps schools manage compliance operations while minimizing sensitive student-data exposure.
- Pupil and parent data is blocked from reaching downstream AI providers by design
- Trip workflows never store pupil, parent, or medical data on the platform
- Sensitive-data filters and PII redaction apply before any AI step
Audience
Who this is for
Best fit for
- Private schools and school networks (Montessori, microschools, K-8, K-12) without a dedicated compliance team
- Nonprofit schools managing board governance and operational compliance alongside their program
- Districts centralizing evidence, attestations, and audit-readiness across sites
- Heads of school, business managers, and operations directors responsible for state and federal obligations
- Schools that need sensitive student and parent data kept away from downstream AI tools
Not ideal for
- Schools looking only for legal advice
- Schools that only need a one-off policy template
- Organizations not ready to track operational evidence and tasks
Getting started
How it works
Set the education profile
Pick K-8 or K-12, indicate federal funding, and list operating states. The Determination Engine routes you to the obligations that actually apply.
Enable the modules
Activate Privacy, Labor, OSHA, Trips, and any other modules the engine flags as applicable. Upload existing policies and start logging attestations and trainings.
Operate with confidence
Run trips end-to-end, file attestations, monitor expiring COIs and certifications, and export an audit binder when the board or accreditor asks.
Platform
Built on the BizNerva platform
Task workflows, evidence tracking, role-based access, AI-assisted review, and audit exports apply across vendor DPAs, student privacy, staff training, field trips, OSHA and WVPP, Title IX records (where federally funded), nonprofit governance, and board-ready evidence. See the full platform layer.
- AI assistant retrieves K-8 guidance for K-8 schools and K-12 guidance for K-12 schools
- CDE (California Dept of Education) and CSLB regulatory feeds active in the scanner
- Audit binder export scoped to the parts of your compliance program that apply, ready for the board, accreditor, or auditor
